EARLY FLUID RESUSCITATION OF END STAGE RENAL DISEASE PATIENTS WITH SEVERE SEPSIS AND SEPTIC SHOCK

The Surviving Sepsis (SS) Guidelines recommend early, aggressive fluid resuscitation with 30mL/kg crystalloid for hypotension or lactate >4mmol/L within the first 3hours of suspected sepsis (t S-3). These guidelines are not always applied to septic patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD) due to fear of developing complications. We hypothesized that ESRD patients with
severe sepsis (with hypotension) or septic shock receiving >/= 30ml/kg initial fluid resuscitation would not develop more cardiopulmonary complications in the first 24hrs, than those treated less aggressively.
