Fluid Resuscitation And Mortality In Sepsis With End-Stage Renal Disease

Patients with end-stage renal disease on dialysis (ESRD-HD) have an increased risk of sepsis and sepsis-related mortality. Professional society and government guidelines recommend weight-based initial IV fluid resuscitation targets as part of sepsis care bundles; however, there are no specific recommendations for patients with sepsis and ESRD-HD. While higher volumes of administered fluids have been associated with increased mortality in ESRD patients with severe sepsis (SeS) and septic shock (SS), no studies have examined the relationship between fluid resuscitation bundle compliance and mortality. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the relationship between fluid resuscitation bundle compliance and in-hospital mortality in patients with ESRD-HD and SeS or SS.
